Rodger Odom
Vice President
I became a member of CGA
in 1991, where we were members of Bay Area Time Busters
in Gilroy. I was elected to the Board of District 1 after a couple of years.
In 1992 or 93 I and a handful of members were instrumental in starting a new
District,
District 16 (now District 8). During
1993- 1994 I was the President of District 16 and on the board of
District 1.
In 1995 at
State Championship Show
I took my
Judge's
test from Conrad Fimbres, taking a break in the middle of the test to compete
in Team events (Ribbon Race) and then returning to complete my test. I competed
at the AA level until 1995 where a back surgery curtailed my riding.
I have helped in the State Office since my wife took over as
General Manager
in 2004.
In 2005 I was elected to the
Board of Directors
and am currently serving my 2nd term. I have been the Co-Show manager of
Northern
Classic. I started the Match race sponsorship program that has
made over $3,000.00 and my wife and I started the raffle program at the
State Championship Show
that has netted CGA over $4,500.00.
Skip Hofman
and I have worked together to Start the CGA Barbecue at State Show that has
become a big hit. In 2007 the barbecue served over 400 people with the help
of the queen and her court and several volunteers, including the CGA General
Manager
Phyllis Odom,
and the head of the
MAC
Sheri Herckorn, and the chairman of the
BoG
Stan Janssen.
I am currently the President of District 1. In 2006 I decided to build an arena
on my property in San Juan Bautista. The arena was to be a place for my wife
and kids to practice. The Arena has become my Field of Dreams. I built it and
they came. In October of 2006 District 1 decided to start holding their shows
at my arena. We were able to convince some local business’s to help. A general
contracting firm donated and built our announcing booth and a local lumber yard
has donated the material to install a set of bleachers for the many spectators
at our shows
I have been appointed
Senior Judge
for District 1. My 3 year old granddaughter is currently riding in the lead
line class, and looking for her first pony.
Looks like we’ve only just begun.
